I'm proud of Apple Inc. today. My former employer and computer manufacturer of choice had this posted as the top story on the "Hot News" page at thier website:

"No on Prop 8

Apple is publicly opposing Proposition 8 and making a donation of $100,000 to the No on 8 campaign. Apple was among the first California companies to offer equal rights and benefits to our employees’ same-sex partners, and we strongly believe that a person’s fundamental rights — including the right to marry — should not be affected by their sexual orientation. Apple views this as a civil rights issue, rather than just a political issue, and is therefore speaking out publicly against Proposition 8."

There is no reason to support this Proposition. And please don't site your religious beliefs, this country was founded on the idea that everyone should be able to practice any religion, and defining LAWS to support, defend or outlaw religious beliefs is wrong. It's also hypocritical since I have a feeling most people who are FOR Prop. 8 would be outraged if there was a proposition to not allow people of their religion to marry since it is not recognized by the state. There is no difference, if you don't believe in marrying people of the same sex... don't marry someone of the same sex. This is an attempt to make homophobia law and I can't support it. They really need to change the state constitution to make it so gay partners can't visit each other in the hospital? The LGBT community isn't making any attempt at stopping male-female couples from doing the same thing, so what is thier issue with that? It is honestly a backward and ignorant proposition that should incite nothing but rage in anyone who has given it thought. Plus some would be surprised how much their views change when they realize a family member, close friend, or anyone they truly care about is gay or lesbian. Hey everybody, my ever-entertaining college roomie and all around great friend Chris Roddy, sent me this funny and chilling video this morning. I love the fun things people are doing with technology these days, and this video is a great example. It both entertains (seeing my own name in a fake newscast SHOULDN'T be as novel as it is, and yet, I have to smirk every time my name is on the screen!), and paints a pretty vivid picture of how important it is to vote, especially for those of us who didn't want to see Bush in office in the first place, let alone those of us who recognize the need for REAL CHANGE now that his presidency draws to a close (once again, brought to us by the brilliant minds at moveon.org). I vow to you that nothing like this newscast will air because I promise to be at my polling place on the 4th, and I hope you will too. You obviously know that I will be casting my vote for Barrack and I beg of you to do the same, I honestly feel that the healing this man could bring about in our country will be nothing short of historic. However, vote for the candidate you most believe in (although I would strongly disagree with anyone who chooses to vote for the Maverick Moose-Killers ;) ), I respect anyone who votes more than anyone who didn't. But seriously, please vote Obama... McCain is an honorable man, whom has earned all our respect, I mean that in all sincerity. If Palin weren't his running mate, and he were running against John Kerry, I might HONESTLY have to consider voting for him... but he's running against Obama, and he allowed his team to talk him into condescendingly choosing Palin in an attempt to win rural and female voters, and most importantly he represents what this country needs least right now... A more of the same ideology, and an aggressive military presence in the White House. Obama is the only candidate honestly representing change. And we need change... badly

Nice, the Tigers have won their last 3 games (2 of which they came from behind) scoring a total of 30 runs in 3 games... NOT BAD! The "new guys" have come through in a big way and the Tigers who did well last year have come through to help out offensively too. Tigers fans aren't out of the woods yet, but lets just say that the last 3 days have been considerably more fun than the first 12 were, ha ha! Nice to relax... Anyway, if we can beat the Indians tonight, we aren't the team in the AL Central with the least wins anymore (although the opposite is true, if we lose, we still are, ha ha) here's to hoping for another win...

Well, the baseball season is upon us. Any of you reading this, no doubt know I am a huge Detroit Tigers fan, I was a Tigers when when they set the American League record for losses in a season in 2003 and I was at Game 2 of the World Series in Detroit only 3 years later (the only game they beat St. Louis in the Series by the way). This year has been kinda rough for Tigers fans so far. Before last night's game the Tigers has played 12 games, and only 2 were wins, neither impressive wins either. On top of that, in 4 of the games the Tigers didn't mange to score at all. All this was happening after being told that for most of the off-season the Tigers were the hands down favorite to win the World Series. We also had to watch a great guy like Brandon Inge lose his every-day position. This is heart-breaking (not that I blame Dave Dombrowski for the decision, is job is to try and win World Series, and sadly that means occasionally telling guys like Brandon Inge they aren't needed anymore) because of what Inge had meant to the team for the last few years. He is the Tiger with the most seniority, he was there in 2003 for the bad times and there in 2006 for the great times. He played any position he was asked to and made some of the most exciting catches in baseball while at third base. Despite him struggling with the bat last year, he still managed to deliver clutch hits and Home Runs seemingly when he needed to most. We also gave up Sean Casey, the nicest guy in baseball, someone you couldn't help but love. Not to mention Pudge Rodriguez, widely regarded as the begining of the "turn-around" in Detroit has struggled in the last season. And on top of all that, maybe the most exciting young Tiger Curtis Granderson, is injured and can't play yet. So after seeing Inge take the bench, Granderson benched, and watching the team that was supposed to have a real shot at 1000 runs this season ( they were on track for less than 500 before last nights game) lose 10 of 12 games... you have to understand things have been disappointing to say the least for Tigertown. That was until last night. Last night the Tiger mounted one of the most exciting comebacks I have ever seen, losing 5-0 in the 7th they went on to beat the Twins 11-9 by the end of the 9th. And it played out in a thrilling way including clutch hits (and a Homer) from Pudge, hits from rookie Clete Thomas, and getting to see Inge take 3rd for the last Inning to play his spectacular defense... I'm not saying the Tigers problems are over, I'm just saying we saw a preview of the team they could be, and hopefully will be this year. Perhaps last nights come-back was the proverbial spark we needed to break out of the funk and start winning. Either-way it was a spectacular night for Tigers fans, something we desperately needed to get excited about this year...

So perhaps the biggest news as of late is that we were asked to leave the Beautiful house that we have been living in since I made the move here from Brooklyn. Obviously this is sad, but at the same time, we've all seemed pretty excited about it. Dale decided to go his own way and buy a place, which is stoked about. Alex, Mike and I found an apartment less than a mile from where we live now, its much smaller and not quite as nice as the house, but it is CHEAP and it has a pool in the courtyard...

We will miss the party pad that was 3428 Oak Glen, but at the same time, it seems like some pretty cool new beginnings for everyone. Enjoy this purposely over-sentimental 80's style photo montage video...

Since I moved to L.A. lat August there have been PLENTY of wildfires in the news, but they were all in places that with my limited knowledge of the surrounding area meant nothing to me. Yesterday's fire was much different, we could see the FLAMES, not just the smoke from the balcony off of our living room. We lucked out, it was across the freeway and we were never in immediate danger, nor were our streets blocked off... in fact we weren't really even inconvenienced. Sadly many of the people who live on the other side of the 101 weren't so lucky, I'm not sure if anyone died, but I did hear that many houses were so severely smoked damaged that people were going to have to move out...

Anyway, here is some video I shot off of the balcony and from the backyard.

Those of you know read this blog have probably seen the name Jaz mentioned a few times. Jaz is one of my greatest friends from my days in Brooklyn. He was part of my core group of friends and he was the genius who pioneered the "Wednesdays Guys Night Out" ritual that most of us participated in most Wednesdays for a good 4-5 years straight. Anyway, Jaz has recently launched a new Blog that will deal with current issues in the world of Health Care. Jaz is a fellow "internet/computer guy" and has worked in for a company that monitors Health Care Providers and Institutions in a number of ways. I have to admit, I am not very "learned" on most of the subject matter that Jaz writes about on his blog, but I know that the things he's working towards are things that align with my wants and needs for the industry he is talking about (like health care transparency, which is a great idea meaning we'd have a access to all kinds of information about the prices and success rates of different procedures at different at different hospitals and so, how great would it be to be able to see a report card for every health care provider and hospital in the world? Like Jaz has set-up here for most of New York State. To read more about what he'd like to see happen on a bigger scale, read Jaz's first post).

This Saturday, Arlene, Alex and I travelled south to La Jolla to attend the 4th Annual Turtleneck and Sweater Party, thrown by the Hicks brothers and Pug's lovely wife Teej (spelling?). It was a blast. The point of this kind of party is to look as ridiculous as possible, while staying themed in the whole "tacky holiday" thing. The invitation warned that: a turtleneck, sweater and holiday spirit were mandatory and a traditional holiday mustache was encouraged. Alex and I did the best we could in the mustache department, but the Carroll/Hauserman genes don't really allow for last minute facial hair growth, so I spent the last two weeks cultivating my mustache and Alex did what he could in the time he had between meetings with agents and his job, where, "sketchy looking facial hair" is obviously frowned upon. But he managed to pull off a pretty sweet handlebar mustache none-the-less and people gave me lots of compliments on how ridiculous my mustache was. All three of us (and many others at the party as you can see in the photos) totally rocked our out fits. Arlene went above and beyond the call, and not only looked AMAZINGLY hilarious (and somehow still beautiful!), but even brought a bag of goodies, which included (but isn't limited to) an air horn, silly string, poinsettias to pin on people, awards for people with great outfits and so on. It was So Much FUN. There are hundreds of pictures from this event, and I tried to pick my favorites from my, Alex and Arlene's cameras and make a gallery, which you can see by clicking HERE, or on the image above...

Hats off to the hosts of the party who figured out how to combine Holiday Fun, Friends, Looking ridiculous, and Drink Specials and make it benefit CHARITY (the money we paid to get in and a lot of the money spent at the bar went to a good cause)! BRAVO! This was easily one of the most memorable parties I have ever, EVER, been to...

For those of you who were there, I'll try and figure out a way to post all 200-300 pics we have for you to download, check back in a few days and hopefully I'll have instructions for nabbing these pics...

So, Wow, kinda of a lot has gone down since I Last posted, eh? Lets see whats gone down:

I had a Birthday! It was amazing thanks to my friends and family out here. Alex hunted down the exact watch I’d been drooling over for months. Arlene spent the better part of the weekend making me feel like a Rockstar, along with getting me some pretty thoughtful gifts. Toby drove 6.5 hours out of his way to spend the weekend with us. Room-mate of the Year Candidate Dale got me a sweet Redwings Hat and hung out with us all weekend. Hart tried to surprise me with breakfast on my birthday, but I was already up and out. And a whole crew of us, including Sera and Kevin made it out to a dinner at the incomparable Miceli’s right down the block. It was an ABSOLUTE blast, and of course there were more of you I wish I could have seen on my b-day, the people I did get to see sure made me feel blessed! And thanks to everyone who shot me an email, phone call or card, I love you all, thanks so much! Mom’s gift to me was paying for the ticket I used to go to the World Series in October, which was AMAZING! THANKS MOM!

Alex, Beth, Mom and I traveled to Salt Lake City for the premiere of Alex’s third Work and the Glory film. It was fun, we’ve all done this 2 or 3 times so we’ve got it down to a system. Although this is the last film they have made (for now) so it could have been our last official trip to SLC, but of course we made a few jokes about getting together there every fall anyway now that it’s become habit! It was a blast, always cool so see most of your family that close to your birthday and the cast/crew of these films has become like extended family…

My friends Matt and Jenn from NYC, Queens specifically made the trek out to California to visit this past weekend. They assure me they had a good time, but I spent the better part of the weekend sleeping off what now appears to be a kidney infection. I will take some of their pics and post them later… It was great to see them even if I wasn’t able to keep up with them. I miss my NYC crew yo!

Was getting my PSP ready to sell (I don't need it anymore, the Nintendo DS is much more fun for me) and found that I had put a few videos on it, including this funny little college project I did. We had about 24 hours to shoot, develop, transfer to video and then edit a project shot on 8mm film. This stars Adam Santos-Coy as the 'main guy', Kathleen Diina as the Dreamy Girl, and Joe Galan as 'the other guy'... Sorry the transfer to video was poorly done, but a fellow classmate did it for me. That is why it looks to Bright, Blown-OUt, or Overexposed... so I apologize, but it wasn't my fault ;) (although I suppose the director is supposed to take all the blame anyway right? Should have re-transfered the footage myself, well, I still have it, so maybe someday...). Anyway, enjoy, and take it for what it was, a fun, quick project some friends and I shot in as fast as possible...

Sorry this isn't another light-hearted "baseball" or "I'm having fun in LA" post, but this is the sort of thing I think people need to realize is happening...

Artist Donny Miller put it best when he put this same video up in his site (which is where I first saw it), under the title, "Why do you need immunity if you haven't done anything wrong?"...



This just makes me mad... but at least its nice to see someone on TV actually calling them out...

Of course I when I say WE are going to the World Series, I mean the Tigers, but on the other hand, WE; as in Justin and Casey Remsing, and Myself and my brother Alex -or sister, Beth, if Alex can't make it home- are going too! I got tickets to Game 2 of the 2006 World Series in Detroit. I fly to Detroit on Friday Night, arrive Saturday Morning and since I am going to be so close to Mom and Dad in Roscommon, took a few days, so I don't have to fly back until Wednesday...

I'm very excited. My team is in the WORLD SERIES and for the first time since 1984, and I get to be there with 3 of my closest friends... Does it get any better?

Alright. Hows everyone doing? Sorry its been so long, but things have been crazy out here. In an entirely positive way mind you, but crazy none the less. Today I figured I'd just try and bring everyone up to speed and post some pics of our amazing new living space. If you want to see some great pics of the new House, then just click on the pic of our living room and you'll be taken to a picture gallery hosted on my old .mac site (I know, I know I am lazy I should have put them up here, but come on, in iPhoto all I do is hit publish and boom, they are up).

Anyway, we've spent a lot of time on the house, and it is really turning into a place that we are thrilled to come home to. It's also the place to watch football on Sunday, thanks to Direct TV's Sunday Ticket which allows us to watch the Lions lose in High-Definition using my projector which Alex and I installed in the 'theater' downstairs. It's great. The projected image is like having a 113" screen. Stunning.

But wait, there is MORE. I am gainfully employed. I'll be doing work similar to what I was doing in NYC, for the LA office of my biggest client in NYC, GLAAD. This is great, since they've basically said I could make my own hours, which will allow me the freedom I need to really take a crack at the whole Film thing (for which I even have a plan now! Which I will lay out in another post in a month or so).
